Objective of Process Safety Management Training Course

The course focuses on the implementation of effective PSM programs, ensuring compliance with regulations and industry standards. Workers will learn to develop and manage safety protocols, conduct risk assessments and implement preventative measures to mitigate potential hazards. Emphasis is placed on fostering a culture of safety, improving operational reliability and protecting workers, communities and the environment.

Process Safety Management Course Module

PSM INTRODUCTION

TIME DURATION 21 MINUTES

Process safety management is a systematic analytical tool for preventing the release of highly hazardous chemicals. Hazardous chemicals include toxic, reactive, explosive and highly flammable liquids and gases. It is a comprehensive management that aims to decrease the number and severity of incidents relating to highly hazardous chemical releases. This training is intended to introduce the basic requirements in the PSM standard, the need for process safety, and the tools used to implement process safety management systems.

PROCESS SAFETY INFORMATION

TIME DURATION 9 MINUTES 40 SECONDS

In the process safety information, it is included that all the workers and employees working on the process should be aware of the process safety of the process on which they are working and all the details and information should be accessible to all the persons working there. Process safety information encompasses a wide variety of information. Many people do not realize how much information is required, or how many different documents are included in PSI requirement.

PROCESS HAZARDS ANALYSIS

TIME DURATION 11 MINUTES 46 SECONDS

In this training aid on process hazard analysis. As we know safety in the organization is a top priority and through process hazard analysis, we identify and evaluate the hazards of processes associated with chemicals that pose more hazards and establish a systematic approach to its control, which plays an important role in preventing accidents caused by chemicals. It is therefore critical to perform a process hazard analysis (PHA) to identify process hazards as early as possible and put in place measures to control the hazards.

OPERATING PROCEDURE

TIME DURATION 8 MINUTES 13 SECONDS

Most accidents occurring in the chemical process industry are mainly due to technical and engineering failures. However, accidents are not only caused by technical factors but can also be caused by human and organizational errors. It is also typical that all factors contribute to accidents at the same time. The employer must develop and implement written operating procedures that provide clear instructions for safely conducting activities in each covered process and are consistent with the process safety information.

EMPLOYEE PARTICIPATION

TIME DURATION 9 MINUTES 53 SECONDS

Employee Participation is intended to provide active participation and essential flow of information between management and employees on process safety to eliminate or mitigate the consequences of catastrophic releases of highly hazardous chemicals in the workplace. Encouraging employee involvement in every aspect of PSM can help companies protect their team members and operations. Encourages employees to participate in safety programs and outlines how they and their organization can benefit from participating.

EMPLOYEE TRAINING

TIME DURATION 14 MINUTES 3 SECONDS

PSM is the proactive identification, evaluation and mitigation or prevention of chemical releases that could occur as a result of failures in processes, procedures, or equipment. Training is the process of imparting knowledge and skills to the participants on a particular topic and finally carrying out a specific task. This can take place in a classroom or workplace. Training is provided by a subject matter expert or person having established knowledge and skills concerning a particular topic or task. Training is involved directly with every PSM element.

PRE STARTUP SAFETY REVIEW

TIME DURATION 10 MINUTES 21 SECONDS

A pre-startup safety review is a crucial part of any process safety management, and it is the final step to ensure safety and efficacy before bringing an updated or new process. The pre-start-up Safety Review is carried out by a multidiscipline team familiar with the operating, mechanical, technical, design and safety requirements of the facility and for a modified facility when a modification is significant enough to require changes. Proper PSSR starts with an effective change process to help increase the visibility of the scope and ensure a smooth PSSR.

MECHANICAL INTEGRITY

TIME DURATION 7 MINUTES 50 SECONDS

A mechanical integrity program is much more than just fixing broken equipment. It is about routine maintenance that is primarily aimed at preventing equipment failure. But if it does fail, the goal is to at least catch that failure before it turns into either down time or a catastrophic event for the plant. Mechanical Integrity (MI) includes inspection, testing, preventive and breakdown maintenance, design, materials and equipment selection, fabrication and installation of equipment and RAGAGEP.

HOT WORK PERMIT

TIME DURATION 12 MINUTES 6 SECONDS

Hot Work is one of the leading causes of fires at industrial facilities. Hot work operations introduce potential ignition sources that require strict supervision and control to minimise hot work losses. Unsupervised hot work fire results in large property damage and business interruption every year. Hot work permit system allows work to start only after safe procedures have been defined and provides a clear record that all foreseeable hazards have been considered. Hot work permits are an essential component of Process Industry safety.

MANAGEMENT OF CHANGE

TIME DURATION 13 MINUTES 27 SECONDS

In this training aid on Management of Change. Change is a daily reality in the process industry. These can be changes in the physical hardware of the plant, control systems, the business processes used or the organization that runs the plant. It is well documented that poor control of plant changes has contributed significantly to losses in the industry. All operating process plants need a strong management of the change process to avoid such incidents and maintain good process safety management.

ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

TIME DURATION 17 MINUTES 4 SECONDS

Accidents and incidents at workplaces happen every day around the world. Occupational accidents in organizations result in huge loss of lives of employees every year. While some of these events may seem minor, others can have disastrous consequences. To ensure the safety of employees and prevent future accidents, it is important to investigate every incident that occurs. Accident investigation is a process that uncovers hazards or problems that can be eliminated so that similar incidents do not occur in the future.

EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT

TIME DURATION 27 MINUTES 37 SECONDS

It focuses on preparing personnel to effectively respond to emergencies in industrial settings. These courses cover a range of topics essential for handling emergencies, such as identifying potential hazards, implementing emergency response plans, utilizing safety equipment and coordinating with emergency services. By completing these courses, employees are better equipped to respond promptly and safely to emergencies, ensuring the continuity of operations and the protection of all stakeholders involved in industrial processes.

COMPLIANCE AUDIT

TIME DURATION 12 MINUTES 11 SECONDS

Process industries are complex and dynamic environments that require constant monitoring and optimization to ensure efficiency, safety and compliance. Audits play a crucial role in this process by providing an objective assessment of the organization’s performance, identifying areas for improvement and ensuring adherence to regulations and standards. Conducting audits regularly can help organizations improve their operations, reduce costs, mitigate risks and enhance their reputation.

CONTRACTOR SAFETY

TIME DURATION 10 MINUTES 24 SECONDS

PSM applies to contractors performing maintenance or repair, turnaround, major renovation, or specialty work on or adjacent to a covered process. PSM includes special provisions for contractors and their employees to emphasize the importance of everyone taking care that they do nothing to endanger those working nearby. The contractor safety management programs are responsibilities of both employers and contractors. Many of these tasks involve hazardous materials and processes, which makes managing the safety of these workers a top priority.

TRADE SECRET

TIME DURATION 6 MINUTES 16 SECONDS

Trade secrets are a vital component of intellectual property, encompassing confidential and valuable information that provides a business with a competitive edge. Unlike patents, trademarks, or copyrights, trade secrets rely on their secrecy for protection. These can include a wide range of data, from manufacturing processes and software algorithms to customer lists and closely guarded recipes. Companies safeguard their trade secrets through rigorous confidentiality and security measures, such as restricted access and non-disclosure agreements.
